Coat Closet

This morning, I woke up at 5:15 AM to this out my window.

That means... SNOW DAY... NO SCHOOL! So, I rolled back over until almost 8:00! Then, I checked today's challenge: Organize the coat closet. In the past, I have tried to organize this SMALL closet and I already had some drawer and hanging storage that I added.

Well, I tried. It didn't last long. It is pretty jam-packed! So, I emptied it.

Notice how bad the walls look. I know that no one will ever really see these walls but this is the one closet in the house that a visitor might actually use. So... I painted it!!

I am too short to reach the top...even on a chair. So I left it for now and will give my Dad the sad, puppy-dog eyes and see if he will finish it for me. And yes, I made a mess in the process!

And after the paint dried...I organized the things that would be going back into the closet.

The After

The picture is too dark to show the details but the top shelf has suitcases stored inside each other, empty, study boxes for presents or mailing something and recycled bags that I use to take things back and forth to my classroom at school. The bottom has only the storage drawers and our rain boots. Each drawer is labeled: top 2 says 'Winter' and the bottom says 'Summer'. I store scarfs, hats and gloves in the Winter drawers and swimsuits, sunscreen and pool toys in the Summer drawer.

And here is a close-up of the hanging shoe storage (only spent $1 at the Dollar Tree...and it has lasted for years!) that I put over the door to help organize all of the "Little Things"...batteries, matches, library cards, index cards, lotion, band-aides, etc!

I started this when my daughter was younger. It not only helped me keep track of the little things but she had access to it and was able to put things away for me.

And, that wasn't the only thing I got done on my Snow Day Off! I mentioned that I wanted to get some cute contact paper for under the kitchen sink. Target, baby!!

How cute does that look... for under $5. AND, the roll is
big enough to do every drawer in my whole place!

They are calling for more snow tomorrow, so there just might be another productive snow day!
